Understanding Tesamorelin Reconstitution

Tesamorelin comes as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in a vial. Before injection, you reconstitute it by adding bacteriostatic water (BAC water). The concentration you achieve depends on how much water you add relative to the peptide amount.

Concentration (mg/mL) = Vial Peptide (mg) ÷ BAC Water Added (mL)
Injection Volume (mL) = Dose (mg) ÷ Concentration (mg/mL). To convert to insulin syringe units (U-100): mL × 100 = units.

Reconstitution Examples

💡 Storage: Unreconstituted vials store at room temperature (up to 77°F). After reconstitution with BAC water, refrigerate at 36–46°F and use within 21 days. Never freeze or shake reconstituted solution.

Injection Sites

Tesamorelin is administered via subcutaneous (under the skin) injection. The abdomen is the most common injection site. Rotate injection sites to prevent lipodystrophy at the injection site itself. Avoid injecting into areas with scar tissue, bruises, or skin irritation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is tesamorelin used for? +
Tesamorelin (brand name Egrifta) is a synthetic growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF) analog. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of HIV-associated lipodystrophy to reduce excess abdominal fat (visceral adiposity). It is also used off-label by some clinicians for general body composition improvement and anti-aging purposes under medical supervision.
What is the standard tesamorelin dosage? +
The FDA-approved dose for HIV lipodystrophy is 2mg subcutaneous injection once daily. Off-label use varies by prescriber, with some protocols using 1–2mg daily. Always follow your prescribing physician's specific dosage instructions, as individual protocols vary.
How do you reconstitute tesamorelin? +
Tesamorelin vials contain lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. To reconstitute: inject bacteriostatic water (BAC water) slowly into the vial, gently swirl (do not shake), and allow the powder to dissolve. The concentration depends on how much BAC water you add — more water gives a lower concentration per mL, less water gives a higher concentration per mL.
How long does a tesamorelin vial last in the refrigerator? +
Unreconstituted tesamorelin vials should be stored at room temperature (up to 77°F / 25°C) and used before expiration. After reconstitution with BAC water, refrigerate at 36–46°F (2–8°C) and use within 21 days. Reconstituted solution should not be frozen or shaken.
What syringe should I use for tesamorelin injection? +
Use an insulin syringe (U-100) for subcutaneous tesamorelin injections. Common sizes are 0.5mL (50 units) or 1mL (100 units) with 28–31 gauge needles, 5/16 to 1/2 inch length. The injection site is typically the abdomen, alternating sides daily. Always follow your provider's injection training.
